Case 28 / 31
A message vetoed by FIFA became a nationwide movement against censorship and intolerance.
A censored idea
Before a Brazil vs. Peru match, both teams planned to pose together with a message calling for tolerance. FIFA vetoed the message, triggering widespread criticism of the decision.
The original gesture became something larger. #TogetherForPeace invited people across Brazil to post photographs with friends from other countries, using social media to amplify the message that had been censored.
Anderson Silva, one of the world’s most recognized athletes, launched the movement and helped it spread nationwide.
